The immediate retired Nigerian Police Inspector General, Solomon Arase has express shocked over President Muhammdu Buhari's decision not to sack him as the nation's number one police officer, News Punch has learnt

Arase expressed his dismay during farewell dinner organized for him by President Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

According to Mr. Femi Adesina,  the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity at a book launch in Lagos yesterday said, Arase during his farewell dinner with President Muhammadu Buhari said he was surprised that a sitting president could host a farewell dinner for him.

He said it was  very strange for him to have been invited for a farewell dinner by the President, because, what we know in Nigeria is that, you are sacked on pages of newspapers.

Arase, also said he had often nursed fear in his heart that, since, he was inherited by Buhari’s administration, he was not sure that he would be retained; so every day, he had the trepidation that he would hear that he had been removed.” he said

Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, yesterday, also revealed why President Buhari retained the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, when he assumed office in May 2015.

Speaking at a book launch in Lagos yesterday June 23rd, Adesina who represented President Buhari at the event, said President Buhari gave his reasons for retaining Arase at a farewell dinner he organised for him on Monday June 20th, a day before Arase, retired from office.

“He said he saw the quality of Arase's mind and he saw the quality of things, he had written. You know Arase has many publications to his credit and he also saw his capacity as an operation person and he decided to keep him till his tenure expired” he said
